This piece explores the idea of freedom as a youth, acceptance, and making ones life their art through the human figure and gestural lines. I created this while listening to a podcast titled "Philosophize This" with an episode about Nietzsche, and allowed his philosophical concepts of accepting ones past as who they are influence my work.

Inspired by the Riot Grrrl movement, I created this piece with the base of a dress I owned from my childhood. Inspired by Georgia O'Keefe, I used the flower to show femininity and ultimately how traditional views of women are outdated and it is in our power to reclaim femininity and empower.

This piece is made from earthen materials such as sticks and leaves, as well as hand dyed fabric, muslin, and weaving samples. It reflects the concept that everything is finite and will return to its natural form. After displaying this piece I destroyed it to allow myself the representation of the beauty in impermanence.

Quote from the Zine: "Our bodies are a vessel. Our experiences and our memories, each idea and conceptualized thought lies within. Each curve and muscle and bone holding us together, protecting us, should be cherished and valued."

Studying a small statue, I created this piece from observing a buddha statue in different views. The orange background contrasts the blue and green buddhas to allow them to stand out.
Glazed Ceramics

This piece was made experimentally, exploring the concept of using inspiration from the natural world. Researching bioluminescent jelly fish, I used this bubbling shape to represent the energy and ideologies acquired from the deep sea.

This piece takes place at a record shop and demonstrates a shared feeling of comfort in darkness between friends.

Childhood items and memories influence our way of being. I've always been fascinated by the way that from such a young age females are objectified. In this piece I explored the gaudy excess of childhood doll parts and playing house that sets up young girls to grow up the way society dictates.
Tempera on Bristol Board

This piece was created experimenting with both the material and concept. Using deeper tones and adding textural elements leading into muted colors allows for a hazy abstraction of a Sunday morning.

This still life was created from observation, exploring using a limited color palette.

For this project I dyed fabric and hand sewed as well as embroidered. The coloring and addition of doll parts plays a role into the concept of teenage exploration of femininity.

The use of gradual light seeping in through the trees is meant to emulate a feeling of peace and serenity in a place filled with loss. Through ends, we are able to see budding beginnings in nature and life.

This fashion piece was created on the basis of the concept that femininity can be viewed with a twist. A flowered camisole with a dark corset creates contrast reflecting the empowerment of women on all spectrums of femininity.

Using a color palette that played with primaries, I explored varying emotion and an esoteric theme. The girl is experiencing tactile beings in her life as well as tangible experience that shape her. This piece demonstrates her reflection on who she is and what brought her to this place.

After listening to podcasts and reading upon the topic of sex trafficking young females, I created this piece as a commentary. Young girls are expected to look and act a certain way and yet are treated as sexual objects from a small age. There is a haunting aspect to the delicate parts of childhood and femininity, such as dolls and flowers and frills. This piece is a tribute to girls who have been victims of trafficking and reflects on the horrors of a young life taken.

Inspired by my own teen bedroom, this piece uses color and contrast to give an esoteric energy reflecting growing up and searching for oneself. The geometric designs and patterns contribute to the idea of sensory experiences and physical connection being what makes life worth living.
